mama’s day inspirations.

Mother’s Day has evolved over the years in our family.

After a nearly disastrous first Mother’s Day where, 2 months post-partum and clearly still quite hormonal, I deviated from my normal “let’s not make a big deal out of this holiday” routine and opted instead for a tantrum that mirrored my now 2 year old…we have since moved on to a more peaceful (and less estrogen-filled) Mother’s Day tradition.

Andrew now knows that we go out on Saturday, and I cook brunch on Sunday.  Because…

Mama’s Day was made for brunch.  Am I right?

SO…here are a few last minute inspirations if you, like me, prefer to cook your own Mother’s Day brunch rather than fight the crowds.

On the SAVORY side…

Leek and Mushroom Tart

A light and tasty alternative to quiche.  Mom will think you are quite the cook when you serve this one.

Bacon and Egg Pizza

Everybody wins when you put breakfast on a pizza!

Potato, Rosemary and Feta Frittata

Savory, flavorful and SO easy to make.

And on the SWEET side:

Maple Oat Pancakes

Gluten-free and healthy, these are a great way to start the day (especially since Mom deserves some sinful dessert in celebration of her hard labor to bring you into this world).

Toasted Coconut and Chocolate Chip Scones

Mom will love these scones, I promise.  She might love them times 3 or 4.  Just let her be…calories don’t count on her day.

Fresh Fruit Sugar Cookie Crisp

I mean, there’s totally fruit in there.  And calories don’t count, as discussed previously:)

Blueberry and Macaroon Tart with Pistachios

This tart was so good I might go make it right now.  Mom will enjoy it too, especially reading a great magazine or book, possibly sipping a glass of iced tea in the backyard…maybe alone.  While you clean the house.

HAPPY MAMA’S DAY to all you sacrificial, dedicated mothers and most especially to my Mama and Mother in Law!

XOXO,

Kelly

  2. Totally with you. Prefer to be cooking and enjoying the day at home (which is what we did). 😉 And all of those dishes look delicious! Wil have to try a few out. Thanks for sharing!
